About opening your first account

Can I open my first Alpha Bank account online?

Yes. In a flash by confirming your details through gov.gr, daily, 07:30-23:30, from your mobile. You do not need to visit a branch.

  1. Download and install the myAlpha Mobile app.
  2. Fill in your mobile number and email, and accept the terms and conditions for banking with us.
  3. Confirm your details through gov.gr
  4. Start a video call with an Alpha Bank representative and have your ID at hand.
  5. Create your password, and accept the terms for the products and the cooperation framework.
  6. Answer a few questions about your financial and transaction profile, and choose if and how you want to stay up to date on our new products and services.

When you open a new account, you automatically get:

  • A debit card for purchases and cash withdrawals
  • e-Banking credentials to manage your account online

What do I need to open my first account through my mobile phone?

You must:

  • Be over 18 years old.
  • Have a mobile phone and an email account.
  • Be a permanent resident in Greece.
  • Have a Greek tax number only.
  • Have updated your details at the National Communication Registry.
  • Not be the primary account holder in any other Alpha Bank account, not own a debit card and not have e-Banking.

You’ll just need your ID for the video call with our representative.

I do not feel safe opening an account from my mobile phone. Is it a secure process?

Can I pause the account opening process and continue where I left off?

Yes, within 24 hours, provided you have completed the video call with our representative.

Otherwise, you’ll have to start over.

Can I use my account right away? Will I also receive the terms and conditions?

Yes. Your account ΙΒΑΝ is created automatically and is ready to use.

At the same time:

  • You gain access to myAlpha Mobile and myAlpha Web.
  • We will send you your new debit card by regular mail. When you receive the card, you can activate it online. However, until you receive it, you may add it to your digital wallet and carry out online or contactless transactions.

Once all 3 products (account, e-Banking, card) have been created/issued, we will email you the respective terms and conditions, and agreements.

What is the credit limit that appears on my account?

The limit is temporary, because you have not updated your details through gov.gr.

To remove it, you need to confirm your occupation and work address within 3 months, by uploading documents through e-Banking or by booking an appointment at a branch near you.

If you continue to see a €15,000 limit after you have updated your professional details, book an appointment at an Alpha Bank branch

Can I receive the card at my work address?

Yes. You can choose to receive your debit card either at work or at home.

If your work address has not been transferred automatically through gov.gr, we will send the card at your home address.

I cannot log in directly to gov.gr to update my details. What should I do?

You need to update your contact details in the National Communication Registry.
