About managing your cards

Can I use my card when travelling abroad?

Yes, you can use any Alpha Bank card for transactions or ΑΤΜ cash withdrawals when abroad. 

For cash withdrawals, there is a charge when using ΑΤΜs abroad. For transactions with your card, there is no charge. However, there is a charge for foreign currency conversion if the transaction is not in euros. 

Before you travel, make sure you have given Alpha Bank a phone number where you can be reached. We may contact you to confirm the transactions made, in the context of our transaction monitoring system applied for your own protection. You can update your personal details online, from your computer or mobile phone.

Can I make payments using my credit card?

Yes. Some payments can be made in interest-free instalments.

At the same time, you collect Bonus loyalty programme points.

What are my card management options through e-Banking?

You can fully manage your debit, credit and prepaid cards through myAlpha Web and myAlpha Mobile. Specifically, you have the following options:

For your security

For you transactions

  • Pay your credit card.
  • Change the daily purchase limit on your debit cards.
  • Change the daily cash withdrawal limit on your credit and debit cards.
  • Top up your prepaid cards or remove funds from them.
  • Transfer Bonus points to other card holders. 

In addition, only through myAlpha Web you can:

  • Activate and deactivate the option to pay off your credit cards.
  • Change the account linked to your card and/or link another account.
  • Activate Alpha alerts for your cards and specify how you want to receive notifications according to your preferences.
 


I have forgotten my card PIN. What should I do?

You can ask us to remind you your PIN online: 

From your computer through myAlpha Web 

  1. Find your card on the home screen (Overview). 
  2. Click on the 3 dots on the right of the card and choose “Send PIN”. 
  3. Confirm that your mobile phone number is correct and click on “Send”. If you wish to receive your PIN on another mobile number, you should first update your contact details, and specifically your mobile number.

From your mobile phone through myAlpha Mobile 

  1. On the home screen, scroll down to the Cards section and tap on the card you need a new PIN for. 
  2. Tap on “Settings”. 
  3. Tap on “Send PIN”. 
  4. Confirm that your mobile phone number is correct and tap on “Send”. If you wish to receive your PIN on another mobile number, you should first update your contact details, and specifically your mobile number.

Can my credit card bill get paid automatically?

Yes, from a linked account.

You can set up or change your card payment method from your computer through myAlpha Web:

  • Find your card on the home screen (Overview).
  • Click on the 3 dots on the right of the card and choose “Card details”.
  • In the “Direct debit” section, choose whether you want the card to be paid automatically or not. In addition, you can choose whether you want to pay off the entire balance each month (Current balance) or just make the minimum payment.
  • In the “Primary Linked account” field, choose the account you want to use to pay your card bill.
 

Can I change the account to which my debit card is linked?

Yes, from your computer through myAlpha Web:

  1. Find your card on the home screen (Overview).
  2. Click on the 3 dots on the right of the card and choose “Card details”.
  3. In the “Primary Linked account” field, choose the account you want to link your card to.

If you like, you can link your card to more than 1 accounts to withdraw cash. When you shop, only the primary account linked to the card is charged.

 

About your contactless transactions

Are contactless transactions safe?

Yes, they are absolutely safe, as they allow you to always hold the actual card in your hands. What is more, contactless transaction cards: 

  • Use Chip & PIN technology to secure your transactions. 
  • Meet the specifications set by Visa, Mastercard and Diners.  

However, you must never share your PIN with any other person. Find out more about the security of your transactions

Could I be charged twice during a contactless transaction?

No. For a transaction to go through, the merchant must type the amount into the POS terminal.  

Once the transaction is complete, the screen displays a message. Therefore, you will not be charged again, even if you touch your card on the terminal a second time.  

About the virtual use of your card

Which new cards offer the virtual use of card option before actually receiving them?

Personal or business debit, credit and prepaid cards which are:

  • Issued for the first time.
  • Re-issued with the same number, in case or loss or theft of the card.

Do I retain all the benefits of my new card with the virtual use of card?

Yes, you do (e.g. collecting and redeeming Bonus points, Affinity euros, Energy euros). It applies to all debit, credit and prepaid cards issued by Alpha Bank, with the exception of:

  • Aegean Bonus Visa debit card
  • Aegean Bonus Visa credit card
  • Aegean Bonus Visa Premium credit card

For these cards, you enjoy all the benefits once you receive the actual card and activate it.

Where can I find my card details?

Log into myAlpha Mobile. Tap on your card on the Overview page. Then tap on “Card Info”. 

To view your card details, the device will ask for the 4-digit PIN you have set for logging into myAlpha Mobile or biometrics. Now you can see the:

  • Card number
  • Expiry date 
  • 3-digit CVV
 

If my card is about to expire, can I use the new one virtually before I receive it?

Yes. However, once you activate the virtual use of your card, you can no longer use your old one.

For example, you won’t be able to withdraw cash from ATMs with the card you already hold until you receive your new one.

About card fees

I was charged €5 for administrative card fees. Why did that happen?

When your card has expired, we have to issue a replacement, for which operating costs apply. Administrative fees cover this cost and are only charged on cards with no annual fee.

How is interest calculated on my credit card?

Interest = Amount due x Interest rate (purchase or cash withdrawal) x days / 365 

The days count from the transaction date to the end of each interest period (the date when interest is calculated by the bank). 

You pay interest only when you have not paid the amount due in full on the due date. 

Is there an annual fee on Bonus cards?

Yes. Check the terms that apply for your card in Alpha Bank’s Transaction Terms.

The Alpha Bank Enter Bonus annual fee is €12. What do I get?
