Contactless transactions rely on wireless Near-Field Communication (NFC) technology and take place by holding the contactless card close to the special card acceptance terminal (POS terminal).
The card has the characteristic “signal emission” sign on its front side and incorporates a special antenna that “communicates” with the special POS terminal that has the same sign. The Cardholder holds his card close to the POS terminal and the transaction takes place easily, quickly and with complete security.
This pioneering technology is ideal for cases where service speed is essential.
Alpha Bank made the first contactless transaction in Greece in 2012.
