How this scam works
Quishing is a new scam that uses QR Codes and belongs to the social engineering/phishing email category. In this scam, you get an email from an unknown sender which includes a QR Code. If you scan the QR Code, you are transferred to a malicious website, where they request your personal data. This way, scammers gain access to your personal details (e.g. e-Banking credentials) and your financial information.
How to protect yourself
To protect yourself effectively, remember that Alpha Bank will never ask you to access secure systems (e.g. myAlpha Web) using a QR Code.
If you receive an email asking you to verify your details at Alpha Bank using a QR Code, the sender is a scammer. In this case:
- Do not scan the QR Code.
- Block the sender.
