The new joint holder’s options 

When a joint holder is added, your account is converted from a sole to a joint account. This means that the new joint account holder:

  • Can access the entire account history, from its opening to date.
  • Has the same options as you to manage the account and the money.

  • Sole, meaning there is no other joint account holder.
  • Active.
  • Not restricted or blocked
  • Not linked to a term deposit.

Can I add a joint account holder online?

Add a joint holder provided you have...

  • Digital banking credentials.
  • An account that meets the conditions.
  • Updated your details and your financial and transaction profile at Alpha Bank.
  • The date of birth and tax number of the person you want to add.
  • Installed the new mobile app, if you want to add a joint account holder through your mobile.

The other person must...

  • Already bank with Alpha Bank.
  • Have personal digital banking credentials.
  • Be a natural person over 18 years old.
  • Have updated their details and their financial and transaction profile at Alpha Bank.
  • Not have another pending request for adding a joint account holder.

Add a joint account holder online

Complete the process online through your digital banking, without supporting documents.

1. Log into digital banking

Log into the new mobile app or web banking using your digital banking credentials.

  • On the new mobile app, choose More > Add joint account holder.
  • On web banking, choose Product details > Add joint account holder. 

Read the steps and conditions for the process and choose “Add joint account holder”.

2. Fill in the other person’s details

For the person you want to add, fill in: 

  • Date of birth 
  • Tax number

Choose “Continue”.

3. Accept the terms and send the request

Confirm the joint account holder’s details.

Read and accept the terms for adding a joint holder. Choose “Confirm” to send the request to the other person. Fill in the 6-digit verification code.

The request will remain active for 10 calendar days. You may cancel it at any time before the process is completed.

4. Wait for the other person to accept it

The person you want to add is notified by email about your request. They may accept or reject it through their digital banking:

  • On the new mobile app, they choose Overview > Your pending requests.
  • On web banking, they choose History > Product applications > Joint account holder.

Before accepting, they have to read the steps, terms and conditions and choose “Confirm”. When they accept the request, you are notified by email.

If they reject it or don’t take all the steps within 10 calendar days, the request is cancelled.

5. Approve the new joint account holder

Once the other person accepts the request, you have to wait 24 hours.

Then, log into your digital banking, find the account and choose “Account details”. Under “Account holders”, “Second account holder” you can see the status of the request. 

You approve or reject the new joint account holder.

With your final approval, your account:

  • Is converted into a joint account.
  • Automatically appears in the new joint holder’s digital banking.

What information does the other person see when they receive the request to be added as a joint account holder?

When the other person receives the request through their digital banking they see:

  • The request date and its deadline
  • The account IBAN, partially masked
  • Your full name

This way, they can check that the request is for the correct account before accepting or rejecting it.

How can the other person reject the request to be added as a joint account holder?

Through their digital banking, in 2 ways:

  1. When they are initially notified, by choosing “Reject request”.
  2. After reading the steps and conditions, by choosing “I’ve changed my mind”.

Moreover, the request is automatically rejected if the other person does not complete the process within 10 calendar days.

The other person does not bank with Alpha Bank. Can I add them as a joint account holder?

No. The person you’ll be adding as a joint account holder must bank with Alpha Bank.

They may open their first account online and immediately get a debit card and digital banking credentials.
