What you need to know
Email updating
If your email is not correct, update it online before you proceed with closing the account.
Pending transactions
Cancel, settle or transfer to another account:
- Standing orders
- Postdated transfers and payments
- Recurring transfers to the account (e.g. rent)
- Limited or blocked amounts
- Cheques
Joint account holder products
If there are joint holders in the account, they must be notified that you are about to close the account so they may unlink any products linked to it.
Linked products or services
Unlink from the account you are about to close:
- Debit and credit cards
- Transaction and service packages
- Loans
- Term deposits
- Insurance products
- Investments and portfolios
- Safe deposit boxes
Add another account
If you haven’t already added another Alpha Bank account on your e-Banking, add one in your contacts. Any interest that may arise from the account you are closing will be debited in that account. The account:
- Must be in the same currency as the one you are closing.
- May be in your name or another holder's name.
You can only add an account through myAlpha Web.
- Click on “Transfers & Payments” from the left menu, scroll down and choose Contacts > New contact.
- Enter the IBAN of the account you want to add.
- Choose “Confirm”.

Close your account through e-Banking
1. Locate the account
On the “Overview” screen, under the “Accounts” section, locate the account you want to close and:
- On myAlpha Mobile, tap on the account and then on the down arrow under “Gross balance”.
- On myAlpha Web, click on the 3 dots on the right of the account.
Choose “Close account”.
2. Transfer balance and verify
If there is a current balance in the account, choose “Balance transfer” to transfer it to another account, held by you or anyone else.
If the account has a negative balance, transfer the corresponding amount from another one of your accounts.
Check the account details. If they are correct, choose “Continue”.
Check the joint account holders’ details. If they are correct, choose “Continue”.
3. Add an account
Choose an Alpha Bank account where any interest from the account you are closing will be debited. Choose “Continue”.
If you have not added another account in your contacts, you can only do so from a computer through myAlpha Web.
4. Submit and approve
Check the details on your screen. If they are correct, choose “Submit”.
Approve the transaction:
- On myAlpha Mobile, using your biometrics or your 4-digit PIN.
- On myAlpha Web, with a 6-digit code or a push notification you receive on your mobile.
5. Find out the status of your application
As soon as your request to close an account has been successfully registered, you receive an email notification.
Then:
- If your request is approved, the account will be closed in a few hours and the account holders will be notified at the email address they have registered with Alpha Bank.
- If your request is rejected, you are notified by email of the next steps you need to take.
You can monitor the status of your request through the “History” section on myAlpha Web.
No e-Banking?

I am trying to close my account online, but the request keeps getting rejected. Why is this happening?
For joint accounts
The request is rejected when:
- The account is an active payroll account.
- The account is linked to credit cards, loans, insurance products or standing orders.
For personal accounts
The request is rejected when the account is linked to credit cards and insurance products.
The request is processed, but you are notified later on of the steps you need to take if:
- The account is an active payroll account.
- The account is linked to credit cards or standing orders.
I have only linked 1 account to my e-Banking. Can I close it?
Yes, provided you add a 2nd Alpha Bank account in the same currency in your contacts. Any interest will be debited to that account.
You can only add an account through myAlpha Web. Click on “Transfers & Payments” from the left menu, scroll down and choose Contacts > New contact.
