CEO

Vassilios E. Psaltis

He was born in Athens in 1968 and he holds a PhD in Banking and a MA in Business and Banking from the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland. He held various senior management positions at ABN AMRO Bank’s Financial Institutions Group in London and at Emporiki Bank wherein he has worked as Deputy (acting) Chief Financial Officer. He joined Alpha Bank in 2007. In 2010 he was appointed Group Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and in 2012 he was appointed General Manager. Through these posts, he spearheaded capital raisings of several billions from foreign institutional shareholders, diversifying the Bank’s shareholder base, as well as significant mergers and acquisitions that contributed to the consolidation of the Greek banking market, reinforcing the position of the Bank. He has been a Member of the Board of Directors since November 2018 and Chief Executive Officer since January 2019. In 2019 he was elected member of the Institut International d' Études Bancaires (IIEB). He is a Member of the Board of Directors and of the Executive Committee of the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV) since July 2021. In October 2021 he was elected member of the Board of Directors of Hellenic Bank Association (HBA).

Spyros N. Filaretos

He was born in Athens in 1958. He studied Economics at the University of Manchester, and he holds a MPhil in Development Economics and International Development from the University of Sussex. Ιn 1985, he joined Alpha Bank, where he held key positions at different branches and Divisions (Organization, Human Resources and Treasury Management). He was appointed Executive General Manager in 1997 and General Manager in 2005. From October 2009 to November 2020, he served as Chief Operating Officer (COO). In December 2020, he was appointed General Manager - Growth and Innovation (new title as of 15.12.2023 Chief of Growth and Innovation). He is a Member of the Boards of Directors of Alpha Bank London Ltd and the Alpha Bank Cultural Foundation as well as Chair of the Board of Directors of Efstathia J. Costopoulos Foundation. Moreover, he is a Member of the Executive Committee. He has been a Member of the Board of Directors since 2005.  

Spiros A. Andronikakis

He was born in Athens in 1960. He holds a BA in Economics and Statistics from the Athens University of Economics and Business (former Athens School of Economics and Business) and an MBA in Financial Management and Banking from the University of Minnesota, USA. He has worked in the Corporate Banking Units of Greek and multinational banks since 1985. He served as a Member of the Board of Directors of Alpha Leasing S.A., Alpha Finance Investment Services S.A., Tiresias Bank Information Systems S.A. and Alpha Bank Romania S.A. He joined Alpha Bank in 1998. He was Corporate Banking Manager from 2004 to 2007. In 2007 he was appointed Chief Credit Officer and in 2012 General Manager – Chief Risk Officer (CRO) [new title as of 15.12.2023 Chief Risk Officer (CRO)].

Lazaros A. Papagaryfallou

He was born in Athens in 1971. He studied Business Administration at the Athens University of Economics and Business and holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Wales, Cardiff Business School. He started his career in Citibank and ABN AMRO and he joined Alpha Bank in 1998, having served as Manager of the Corporate Development, International Network and Strategic Planning Divisions. On 1.7.2013 he was appointed Executive General Manager of the Bank and has contributed to the implementation of the Group’s Restructuring Plan, the capital strengthening of the Bank, the design and closing of mergers, acquisitions and portfolio transactions. During his career he served as Chairman and Member in the Boards of Directors of various Group Companies, both in Greece and abroad, in the banking, insurance, financial services, industry and real estate sectors. On 2.1.2019 he was appointed General Manager – Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the Group [new title as of 15.12.2023 Chief Financial Officer (CFO)].

Ioannis M. Emiris

He was born in Athens in 1963. He studied Economics and Business Administration at the Athens University of Economics and Business (former Athens School of Economics and Business) and holds an MBA from Columbia Business School as well as a US Certified Public Accounting (CPA) degree. He started his career as a certified public accountant in PricewaterhouseCoopers in New York. From 1991 to 2012, he worked for the Alpha Bank Group, initially as an Investment Banker in Alpha Finance Investment Services S.A. and from 2004 as Manager of the Project Finance and the Investment Banking Divisions of Alpha Bank. From 2012 to 2014, he was the Chief Executive Officer of the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (HRADF). On 5.11.2014, he was appointed Executive General Manager and on 19.11.2019 he was appointed General Manager of Wholesale Banking (new title as of 15.12.2023 Chief of Wholesale Banking).

Isidoros S. Passas

He was born in Thessaloniki in 1967. He holds an MSc in Mechanical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens and an MBA from City, University of London (Bayes Business School) and has attended the Advanced Management Program (AMP) at INSEAD. He started his career at Procter & Gamble and held managerial positions in Marketing and Sales Management functions at multinational Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) companies. He worked at Eurobank for 13 years, where he held positions of responsibility in Retail Banking and served as a Deputy General Manager of the Retail Banking Network and as a member of the boards of directors of the bank’s subsidiaries. In 2013 he took up duties as a Senior Advisor to the Management on retail marketing distribution in Hellenic Petroleum. He joined Alpha Bank in 2014. He held the positions of Manager of the Deposit and Investment Products and Manager of the Greek Branch Network Division. He is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of AlphaLife Insurance Company S.A. and Member of the Board of Directors of Alpha Real Estate Management and Investments (AREMI) S.A. On 1.4.2016 he was appointed Executive General Manager and on 19.11.2019 General Manager of Retail Banking (new title as of 15.12.2023 Chief of Retail Banking).

Nikolaos V. Salakas 

He was born in Athens in 1972. He studied Law at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and holds a postgraduate degree (LL.M. in International Business Law) from the University College London. In March 2019, he joined Alpha Bank as Chief Legal and Governance Officer, after more than twenty years of cooperation with Koutalidis Law Firm, at which he had been Head of the Banking and Finance Department since 2010. In 2022 he returned to Koutalidis Law Firm, while taking up the role of Special Legal Counsel to the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the Bank, making, thus, a key contribution to the implementation of critical and strategic transactions. He has more than 25 years of experience in Greek and International Banking and Regulation, Finance, Restructuring and Securities Transactions and he is ranked amongst the top Greek lawyers by the International Financial Law Review (IFLR), the Legal 500 guide and Chambers and Partners. He has supported Alpha Bank in regulatory issues, M&As as well as in strategic transactions since 1999. On 1.4.2024 he was appointed Chief of Corporate Center and General Counsel and Member of the Executive Committee.

Sergiu – Bogdan A. Oprescu

He was born in 1963. He holds an MEng degree from the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at Bucharest Polytechnic Institute, with specialization in Avionics. He acquired a postgraduate degree in Reliability with specialization in “Complex technical systems’ reliability” from the Bucharest Polytechnic Institute and attended various executive programs at Harvard Business School, Stanford Graduate School of Business and London Business School. In 1994 he joined Alpha Bank Romania S.A., where he held several senior positions before he was appointed Executive President in 2007. He was Managing Director (1995-1996) and then Executive President (1996-2002) at Alpha Finance Romania S.A. (former Bucharest Investment Group – Brokerage S.A.). He served as President of the Board of Governors of the Bucharest Stock Exchange (2001-2006), as Board Member of the Romanian Association of Banks and coordinator of the banking commissions on Mortgage Lending, Non-Performing Loans, European Union Funds Absorption, Treasury and Capital Markets (2008-2014) and as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Romanian Association of Banks (2015-2021). On 11.2.2019 he was appointed General Manager of International Network (new title as of 15.12.2023 Chief of International Network).

Stefanos N. Mytilinaios

He was born in Athens in 1973. He holds a First-Class degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Bristol, Great Britain, and an MBA with Distinction from INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France. He brings onboard extensive experience in technology, operations and business, having assumed managerial positions in Greece and abroad. He served as the Deputy Group CIO at Eurobank and as a business consultant at McKinsey & Company, based in Athens and London. Moreover, he has been the Chief Technology Officer at Commercial Bank of Qatar and later on he was appointed General Manager, Digital Business at Piraeus Bank. On 1.12.2020 he was appointed General Manager – Chief Operating Officer (COO) [new title as of 15.12.2023 Chief Operating Officer (COO)].

Fragiski G. Melissa

She was born in 1968. She studied Psychology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and holds postgraduate degrees in Industrial/Organizational Studies from Columbia University and in Social Studies from the New School for Social Research. She brings 28 years of experience in human resources. She served as a Regional Human Resource Director for Southeastern Europe at Colgate Palmolive, while in her career she also held positions of responsibility at Makro Cash & Carry and at KPMG. For the last 8 years before joining Alpha Bank, she was Head of Human Resources at Vodafone in Greece and Romania. On 3.3.2020 she was appointed Executive General Manager – Chief Human Resources Officer and on 20.5.2022 she was appointed General Manager – Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) [new title as of 15.12.2023 Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO)].

Georgios V. Michalopoulos

He was born in Athens in 1973. He studied Mathematics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and holds an MBA in Finance from City, University of London (Bayes Business School). He started his career at Alpha Bank in 1994 and worked in the Treasury functions in Athens and London. He has served as Group Treasurer and Manager of the Planning and Trading and the Financial Markets Divisions. He has been a Member of the Board of Directors of various Group Companies in the banking, finance and insurance sectors in Greece and abroad for a number of years. On 4.5.2016 he was appointed Executive General Manager of Treasury Management and on 20.5.2022 he was appointed General Manager ‒ Wealth Management and Treasury (title as of 15.12.2023 Chief of Wealth Management and as of 1.4.2024 Chief Wealth Management Officer).

CHIEFS (NON - EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBERS)

 

Georgios T. Adraktas

He was born in Athens in 1974. He holds a BSc from the Department of Statistics of the Athens University of Economics and Business and an MSc in Operational Research and Management Science from the University of Edinburgh. He is also an INSEAD alumni, where he gained expertise in Global Management. Moreover, he holds relevant certifications in Commercial Credit (Moody’s Analytics) and in Operational Risk (Professional Risk Managers’ International Association – PRMIA).

He commenced his career in the consulting sector (Financial Services) and since 2002 he has been employed in Alpha Bank, serving in various Risk Management areas. Since February 2023 he has served as Chief Risk Control Officer, supervising the management and monitoring of all financial and non-financial risks of the Group.

In the course of his career, he has served as Chair and Member of the Boards of Directors of Group Companies both in Greece and abroad. To date, he has been a member of the Greek branch of the PRMIA, Chair of the Audit Committee of the Bank Information Systems S.A. (Tiresias) and member of its Board of Directors.

Marianna D. Antoniou

She was born in Athens in 1967. She studied Business Administration with a minor in Marketing at the Athens University of Economics and Business and she attended an MBA course at the Hellenic Management Association (EDEE). She has been working in Alpha Bank since 1989 and in 2010 she was appointed Manager of the Accounting Division and, subsequently, Manager of the Accounting and Tax Division. During her career she has also served as Chair, Vice Chair and Member of the Boards of Directors of Group Companies in the banking , insurance, services and real estate sectors, in Greece and abroad . Since 2014, she has been Head of the accounting committee of the Hellenic Bank Association and member of the accounting committee of the European Banking Federation, which is responsible for the adoption of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), their transposition into the Greek and the European laws as well as for their uniform implementation. On 1.1.2024 she was appointed Chief of Statutory Reporting and Tax.

Xenofon D. Avlonitis

Xenofon Avlonitis was born in 1969. He served as Vice Chairman of the Hellenic Capital Market Commission between 2009 and 2019, for the maximum of two tenures. He was an Alternate Member representing the Commission to the ESMA Board of Supervisors. He presided over a series of committees on the subject of the implementation of EU Directives into the Greek legislation. Before 2009, he had been working in the Commission for 12 years, having served as Director in the Department of Public Offerings & Supervision of Listed Companies from 2003 to 2009. For the first six years of his career, he worked in the Greek private sector. He served as a Board Member at the Hellenic Accounting and Auditing Standards Oversight Board and has been a member of the Hellenic Corporate Governance Council since 2011. He studied Economics in the University of Piraeus and holds an MSc in Business Finance from Brunel University. He has been the first Greek professional accepted in the Yale World Fellows Program. On 1.1.2024 he was appointed Chief of Compliance.

Tilemachos D. Georgakis

He was born in Athens in 1971. He holds a BSc in Mathematics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and an MBA from the University of Wales (Cardiff Business School). He commenced his career in 1998 at Laiki Bank and since 2005 he has been working at Alpha Bank, where he was appointed Manager of the Corporate Banking Division in 2013. In November 2014, he became Manager of the Business Centers Division and in September 2017 Manager of the Commercial Banking Senior Division, supervising the Business Centers and the Hospitality and Island Enterprises Division. Moreover, he has served as Chair and Vice Chair of the Boards of Directors of Group Companies. Since December 2015, he has been a Member of the Boards of Directors of ABC Factors S.A. and Alpha Leasing S.A., while in 2021 he was appointed Chair of the latter’s Board of Directors. On 1.1.2024 he was appointed Chief of Commercial Banking.

Thaleia Z. Emiri

She was born in Athens in 1968. She holds a BA in Law from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens as well as an MA in Economic Law and a suma cum laude PhD in Corporate Law, both from Panthéon-Assas University (Paris II). Moreover, she holds professional certifications in Governance, Risk and Compliance (ICA) as well as in Corporate Sustainability (Saïd Business School) issues. She has worked in Tier 1 law firms and in private companies, focusing mainly on corporate and banking law. She has served as Special Policies Director at the Prime Minister’s Office (2012) and as Legal Advisor to the Minister of Finance (2012-2013). She has also been the Chief Legal Counsel at the Hellenic Financial Stability Fund (HFSF) (2013-2018) during the restructuring of the Greek banking system. She has extensive experience in providing support for structured financial transactions, in negotiating with different stakeholders and in managing crisis situations. She has also held office as a non-executive member of the board of directors of the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (HRADF). She joined the Bank as Chief Legal Officer in December 2022.

Ioannis T. Ioannidis

He was born in Athens in 1972. He holds a BSc in Business Administration and Marketing Management from The American College of Greece (Deree College) and an MBA in Finance from ALBA Business School. He worked at Citibank and at ABN AMRO Bank for 18 years, holding positions of responsibility in Retail Banking, as well as at Emporiki Asset Management and at New Millennium Asset Management in the Wealth Management area. He joined Alpha Bank in 2014, initially serving as Manager of the Deposit and Bancassurance Products Division, while from 2021 until 2023 he was Manager of the Retail Banking Products Senior Division, also supervising the Cards and the Personal Loans Divisions. He has served as a member of the boards of directors of Group Companies, such as Alpha Finance Investment Services S.A., AlphaLife Insurance Company S.A. and Alpha Insurance Agents S.A., and of Νexi Payments Greece (2021-22). On 15.12.2024 he was appointed Chief of Retail Banking Products.

Marios C. Kalotychos

He was born in Thessaloniki in 1981. He holds a BSc in Actuarial Science from the London School of Economics and an MSc in Finance from the University of Cambridge. He commenced his career in the fixed income markets divisions of Deutsche Bank (2005-2008) and Morgan Stanley (2008-2016) in London and, subsequently, he served as General Manager of Corporate Development at the Hellenic Bank (2016-2021). In 2021 he joined Alpha Bank as Manager of the Strategy and Investments Division.

Panayotis T. Kapopoulos

He was born in Athens in 1964. He holds a PhD from the Athens University of Economics and Business and an MA in Economics and Econometrics. He was Head of Risk Management at Emporiki Bank, Crédit Agricole Group (2005-2013) and served as member of the BoD of Tiresias S.A. and of the Scientific Council of the Hellenic Bank Association (HBA). During his career, he served as Advisor to the Management on Strategic Planning at Emporiki Bank and Alpha Bank. He has taught macroeconomics, banking and risk management at the University of Piraeus and the Athens University of Economics and Business. He is the author of four books, for one of which (co-authored with G. Provopoulos) he received the Award of the Class of Ethical and Political Sciences from the Academy of Athens in 2003, as well as numerous articles in academic scientific journals such as, inter alia, the European Journal of Political Economy, the Journal of Policy Modeling, Corporate Governance, the Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, the Scottish Journal of Political Economy, Managerial and Decision Economics and Economics Letters. He was appointed Head of Economic Research in 2014 and Chief Economist in 2022.

Aikaterini I. Marmara

She was born in Athens in 1973. She studied International and European Economic Sciences at the Athens University of Economics and Business and she holds an MSc in International Banking and Financial Studies from the University of Southampton.  She has 26 years of professional experience in the field of financial management. She commenced her career in Alpha Bank in 1997, working in the Treasury Management Division in Athens and London. From 2016 until 2023 she served as Manager of the Trading Senior Division, supervising the Capital Markets, the Derivatives Markets, the Liquidity Management and the Debt Management Functional Areas. In 2019 she was appointed Member of the Board of Directors of Alpha Bank Cyprus (ABC) Ltd. On 1.1.2024 she was appointed Chief of Global Markets and Group Treasurer.

Nikolaos K. Nezeritis

He was born in Athens in 1977. He holds a BSc in Business Administration from the University of Piraeus and an MSc in Finance from the University of London (Birkbeck College). He commenced his career at the Transaction Advisory Services Division of Ernst & Young and in 2007 he joined Alpha Bank. In 2018 he was appointed Manager of the Structured Finance Division, being responsible for financings in the infrastructure, energy and Commercial Real Estate (CRE) sectors, while contributing significantly to the conclusion of major transactions. On 1.1.2024 he was appointed Chief of Corporate and Investment Banking.

Pavlos G. Dolas

He was born in Athens in 1978. He holds a BEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), an MSc in Telecommunications and an MSc in Finance, both from the Imperial College London. He worked in London for Citibank over 18 years, first in Corporate and Investment Banking and then as a Senior Credit Officer (SCO) in Credit Risk Management. He has wide-ranging experience, covering diverse companies and sectors, while from 2012 onwards he specialized in Shipping and Aviation.

Since 2022 he has been working for the Alpha Bank Group in the position of Chief Credit Officer.

Evangelos D. Patrinos

He was born in Thessaloniki in 1971. He studied Business Administration at the University of Macedonia. He holds an MBA from Imperial College Business School and an MSc in International Banking & Financial Studies from the University of Southampton. Moreover, he holds professional qualifications CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) and FRM (Financial Risk Manager). He has worked at Piraeus Bank and ABN AMRO Bank. He joined Alpha Bank in 2005. In 2014 became Manager of Corporate Banking Division and in 2017 Manager of Non-Performing Loans Division. In 2020 he was appointed Executive General Manager of NPEs, Remedial Management and on 1.1.2024 Chief of Wholesale Trade Lending and Transaction Banking.

Maria C. Rontogianni

She was born in 1973. She studied Public Accounting and Marketing at Fordham University, New York. She has a 25-year experience in the broader scope of internal audit and joins the Bank after being Senior Vice President, Group Audit and Risk Management at Deutsche Telekom. From 2009 and until her move to Bonn, she was Group Chief Internal Auditor at the Hellenic Telecommunications Organization (OTE). She was also Director of Internal Audit at Wind Telecommunications and Lamda Development, while earlier in her career she worked for a number of years at Arthur Andersen in Athens as well as at JP Morgan and the National Futures Association in New York. On 1.4.2020 she was appointed Executive General Manager of the Bank and on 1.1.2024 Chief of Internal Audit.

Konstantinos G. Sarafopoulos

Prior to Alpha Bank, Mr. Sarafopoulos spent 16 years at J.P. Morgan predominantly in the Chief Investment Office holding various roles as a Portfolio Manager. From 2013 onwards, he was an Executive Director / Senior PM, heading the CIO’s EMEA Rates & FX Division from 2016-2020. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and an MSc in Applied and Computational Mathematics, both from Oxford University. He joined Alpha Bank in 2021 as the Group Head of Asset Liabilities Management Division and has been the Group’s Chief Investment Officer since January 2023.  He is a voting member in various Group Committees (Group Asset-Liability Committee, Real Estate Committee etc.) and President of the Investment Committee of the Institution for Occupational Retirement Provision (IORP) of Alpha Services and Holdings Group Personnel.

Penny C. Spiliotopoulou

She was born in Kalamata in 1973. She holds a BSc from the Athens University of Economics and Business and an MSc in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics. She commenced her career in 1995 at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), London. She has been employed in various financial institutions, first for the provision of auditing and consulting services and subsequently as a banking executive. She has been working in Alpha Bank since 2013, holding managerial positions in different Units under the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) area. In January 2024 she was appointed Chief of Performance Management and Reporting.

Christos N. Schizas

He was born in Athens in 1977. He studied Business Administration at the Athens University of Economics and Business and holds an MBA from INSEAD, France, while he has also attended training programs at Harvard University. He commenced his career at Eurobank, where he worked in the Bancassurance and Personal Banking sectors. He then moved to the media industry, specifically to the RTL Group in Luxembourg, where he served as Deputy CEO of the ENEX international news agency and later as the Group’s Vice President of Business Development and Group Synergies, responsible for coordinating the Group’s international subsidiaries on issues such as digital media investments and content development. He also served on the Board of Directors for various Group companies.

He joined Alpha Bank in 2020. In May 2021, he took on the role of Manager of the Retail Banking Customer Segments Senior Division and on 1.1.2024 he was appointed Chief Retail Distribution Officer.

Spyridon P. Tzamtzis

He was born in Athens in 1965. He began his career in 1989. He worked for four years in the Hellenic Aerospace Industry and in 1994 joined Alpha Bank. In 2010 he became Manager of Computer Applications and in 2016 Senior IT Director. In October 2020 he was appointed Executive General Manager of IT - CIO and on 1.1.2024 Chief Information Officer (CIO). He holds a degree in Geology from the Faculty of Science of the University of Athens and an MBA from the National Technical University of Athens and the Athens University of Economics.

Konstantinos G. Tzimopoulos

He was born in 1968. He studied Mining and Metallurgical Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens and he holds an MSc in Business Information Technology Systems from the Strathclyde Graduate Business School in Glascow. He commenced his career with General Electric, London, where, after completing a two-year corporate graduate training program (Information Management Leadership Program – IMLP), he worked for 8 years in the Industrial and the Financial sectors of the organization, holding roles in the fields of program delivery and business improvement, with expertise in Lean and Six Sigma methodologies. He served as Service Deliver Director of First Data Hellas (2005-2012). Since 2013 he has been working in Alpha Bank, contributing actively to the integration programs for Emporiki Bank and of the operations of Citibank’s Retail Banking in Greece. From 2018 until 2023 he was Manager of the Organizational Planning Senior Division, leading the Organization and Business Projects Divisions. On 1.1.2024 he was appointed Chief Operational Excellence Officer.

Michael V. Tsarbopoulos

He was born in 1976. He holds an MBA from the Simon School of Business of the University of Rochester, NY (USA) as well as a Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens.
His professional experience spans 20 years, of which 14 in senior leadership roles in the banking sector in Greece. During his years in Eurobank he served in crucial roles, most recently as Group Chief Digital Officer, responsible for planning, supervising and supporting the implementation of the bank’s digital strategy, and as Deputy General Manager - Head of Global Transaction Banking. Before that, he worked for the Boston Consulting Group, focusing primarily on Financial Services, and has also served as Manager of Strategic Initiatives in HSBC Greece. On 1.12.2021 he was appointed Executive General Manager of the Bank and on 1.1.2024 Chief Digital Officer.
