A tribute to the female artists of Greece

As Mr Psaltis noted in his speech, “the Exhibition pays tribute to the female artists who dared to innovate and formed new terms for artistic expression and creation in our country over the last 150 years.” 

The CEO also added that “this exhibition comes to illuminate women’s consistently significant role in the arts through time, in an era when female empowerment is prominent in the public debate, while for us at Alpha Bank it is also an area in which we launch significant initiatives, as it is one of our strategic priorities..”

A major artistic event

The prestigious event was also attended by representatives from local institutions on Corfu, as well as people of the arts, senior Alpha Bank executives and the general public. 

Local government officials included: 

  • Stefanos Poulimenos, Mayor of Central Corfu and the Diapontian Islands
  • Savvas Koulouris, Deputy Regional Governor for Finance and Trade of the Ionian Islands 
  • Spyros Ioannou, Deputy Regional Governor for Public Works and Planning of the Ionian Islands 
  • Olympia Kardakari, President of the Regional Council of the Ionian Islands 
  • Xenophon Alamanos, President of the Municipal Council of Central Corfu 

The Corfu academic community and the world of the arts and letters were represented by:

  • Andreas Floros, Rector of the Ionian University 
  • Thanasis Makris, President of the Reading Society of Corfu 
  • Michail-Aggelos Vradis, President and Founder of the Corfu Art Gallery

46 works by female Greek artists

The exhibition “WOMEN. Female Artists in the Alpha Bank Collection”, which will run until 07.09.2025, showcases 46 works of art created by prominent female artists from the late 19th to the early 21st century. They include works from the fields of painting, engraving, sculpture, photograph and modern forms of expression.  

The exhibition aims to highlight the: 

  • Significant contribution of women to Greek artistic creation from the late 19th to the early 21st century 
  • Multifaceted and demanding role of women today

It also showcases the history of the Alpha Bank Art Collection through a timeline and a short video. In addition, a custom digital application provides information to visitors about each one of the 41 creators an all their works that belong to the Alpha Bank Art Collection. 

Alpha Bank Art Collection: A compilation of modern Greek art

The Alpha Bank Art Collection is one of the largest private collections in Greece and among the 80 most important collections worldwide. 

The 5,500 magnificent works of art that belong to the Collection narrate the evolution of modern Greek art from 1880 to date, with a panorama of Greek creators from all time periods. Many of them are on display in buildings and branches of the Alpha Bank network across Greece. 
The Collection is open to the scientific and academic community, as well as the general public, as it: 

  • Hosts exhibitions and lends works to exhibitions hosted by other institutions.
  • Publishes books that promote artistic education and historical memory. 
  • Carries out educational programmes that bring the young generation in touch with art.

Standing by our people

The Alpha Bank CEO and management team also visited 2 Alpha Bank branches on Corfu, and talked with the employees. 

The branches are located in the centre of Corfu and on the Corfu-Palaiokastritsa National Road, serving:

  • 7,000 small, medium and large businesses
  • 44,000 individual customers

Mr Vassilios Psaltis discussed with the staff the strong growth prospects for the island’s tourism industry and highlighted the importance of meeting the needs of customers on Corfu and all the Ionian islands.
