Offering investment products with a positive impact

In 2024 we offered our Private Banking clients 4 issues of structured bonds, classified as investments with a positive environmental and social impact.

For every €1,000 of nominal participation in Alpha Bank sustainable investment products, environmental enterprise Reforest’Action and the Forest Research Institute of Thessaloniki plant 1 tree. The funding is given for:

Arona forest, Katerini
Thessaloniki forest
Pierian Mountains forest
Kastanolongos forest, Southern Evia

By introducing impact investments in Greece for the very first time.

Protecting biodiversity

Since 2021 our initiatives to restore forests have actively contributed to preserving our ecosystems, and protecting the health of flora and fauna in our forests. At the same time, we help protect wildlife.

Our investments with a positive environmental impact help protect various trees in Greek ecosystems:

Hungarian oak, pine, Turkish pine, kermes oak, Mediterranean cypress and holly oak, in the Thessaloniki forest.
Scots pine, beech, fir and birch, in the Pierian Mountains forest.
Hungarian oak, Oriental hornbeam, and flowering ash, in Arona forest.
European chestnut tree, holm oak, hawthorn, juniper and kermes in Kastanolongos forest in Karystos.

Upon completion of the initiatives, experts will monitor the growth of the new trees and ensure the forests’ health.

Giving back to the environment and local communities

Along with their benefits for the ecosystem, these initiatives also:

Help fight climate change.

Restoring forests also has social and economic ramifications. Through these initiatives, we actively provide jobs in the local communities by creating many new career opportunities in various industries, including bee-keeping, mushroom farming, controlled hunting and tourism.

Trees protected by the initiatives

Hungarian oak

A deciduous tree, reaching heights of 25 metres. It is the main tree in Arona and Kastanolongos forests.

Oriental hornbeam

A small tree, rarely over 10 metres tall, and often shrubby.

Flowering ash

A deciduous tree growing to 15-25 metres tall, with a trunk up to 1 metre in diameter.

Planning for the future

We aim to continue our forest restoration initiatives in Greece for many years to come. The restoration of the Pierian Mountains forest is now complete.
