About the Market Pass in general

What exactly is the Market Pass programme?

It is a government programme for financial aid, designed to tackle the increase in household expenses, caused by the sharp rise in the consumer price index. It ran for 6 months, from February 2023 to July 2023 and is still active for August, September and October 2023.

You can apply from 15.09.2023 to 31.10.2023.

Who can apply for the Market Pass?

Greek citizens:

  • With income up to €16,000 in the 2022 tax year and total property value up to €250,000, according the 2023 ENFIA (unified property tax), if they are single, widowed or separated.
  • With income up to €24,000 in the 2022 tax year and total property value up to €400,000, according the 2023 ENFIA (unified property tax), if they are married, parties to a civil partnership or single parents. The amount increases by €5,000 for each child.

All the conditions are detailed in Article 46 of Government Gazette/Α/136/29.7.2023 and in Government Gazette/B/5243/29.8.2023 according to the relevant Joint Ministerial Decision.

If a couple fits the eligibility criteria, but each partner files a separate tax return, are they both entitled to the aid?

Yes. If the total annual family income is up to €24,000 for married couples or parties to a civil partnership who file separate tax returns, then both partners are entitled to the aid.

How do I apply for the Market Pass?

Online through the vouchers.gov.gr platform.

To apply, you must have Taxisnet credentials and verify a mobile phone number and an email address.

You need to complete a few simple steps and choose how you will receive the financial aid.

You can apply until 15.03.2023.

Can I change or cancel my application after submitting it?

Yes. However, it depends on the date you applied.

You can change your details or cancel your application by:

  • 25.09.2023, if you apply earlier than this date.
  • 31.10.2023, if you apply after 25.09.2023.

After these deadlines, your application is final and you cannot make any changes.

Do I have to bank or start banking with Alpha Bank to get my Market Pass?

No, you don’t have to bank with us, nor will you start banking with us because you have submitted your application.

When you apply, you choose whether you want to receive the aid:

  • Through a virtual card, where the aid amount is paid every month. In this case you get 100% of the aid you are entitled to in 6 instalments.
  • Through a bank account you hold with Alpha Bank, where the aid amount is paid every 3 months. In this case you get 80% of the aid you are entitled to in 2 instalments.

How is the Market Pass aid paid?

When you apply, you choose whether you want to receive the aid:

  • Through a virtual card.
  • Through a bank account you hold with Alpha Bank. In this case,  you get 80% of the aid.

When will I receive the Market Pass aid in my virtual card?

If you applied for a virtual Market Pass Visa card, you will get the aid amount in your virtual card for August, September and October 2023 until:

  • 29.09.2023, if you apply by 25.09.2023.
  • 05.11.2023, if you apply by 31.10.2023.

When will I receive the Market Pass aid in my bank account?

If you applied for payment of the Market Pass aid into your bank account, you will receive the aid into your bank account for August, September and October 2023 until:

  • 29.09.2023, if you apply by 25.09.2023.
  • 05.11.2023, if you apply by 31.10.2023.

What is the maximum aid amount that I can get?

10% of the cost of your purchases, up to a maximum of €220 per month, for single-person households. For larger households, the amount increases by €100 for each household member, up to a maximum of €1,000.

I have already received the Market Pass aid from February 2023 to July 2023. Should I apply again?

No. You have to apply again if you wish to:

  • Change the way you receive the Market Pass, from virtual card to bank account, and vice-versa.
  • Switch your deposit account.

The system checks the terms automatically so you can get the aid for August, September and October 2023.

 

I do not bank with Alpha Bank, but I have e-Banking credentials from a previous programme (e.g. Fuel Pass I and II and Tourism-for-All). Can I use them to activate my Market Pass Visa?

If you had chosen Alpha Bank to have a virtual card issued for the Tourism-For-All Pass, you must use the e-Banking credentials that had been generated then. Your new Market Pass Visa card will appear on your e-Banking. If you have forgotten your credentials, find out how to recover your credentials online.

If you had chosen Alpha Bank to have a virtual Fuel Pass I and II and/or a Freedom Pass issued and had obtained e-Banking credentials, we will send you new e-Banking credentials.

Is the Market Pass aid amount exempt from seizure?

Yes. The Market Pass financial aid:

  • Is tax-free, non-delegated and exempt from seizure by the Greek State or third parties.
  • Is not subject to any withholding, duties or fees.
  • Cannot be blocked or offset with registered debts to the tax authority and the State in general.
  • Is not taken into account in the income criteria for the payment of any social or welfare benefits.

Receiving and activating the Market Pass Visa

Will I also get my Market Pass Visa as a plastic card?

No, the Market Pass Visa is a virtual card.

To shop at POS devices, you can add your card to the digital wallet of our choice (Apply Pay or Google Pay) through myAlpha Mobile.

Attention: You cannot add the Market Pass to myAlpha Wallet.

Why do I need myAlpha Mobile?

To use your virtual Market Pass Visa card.

Through myAlpha Mobile, you can view your card details, use your card online or add it to your digital Google Pay or Apply Pay wallet to shop in-store.

I bank with Alpha Bank and have e-Banking credentials (Username and Password). How do I get my virtual Market Pass Visa card?

When you apply, choose Alpha Bank to get and use your virtual Market Pass Visa card.

If your application is approved, you will receive a Viber/SMS notification once we receive your request through the programme. 

When the process for issuing the virtual Market Pass Visa card is completed, we will send you a relevant SMS.

To get access to your virtual Market Pass Visa card:

  1. Choose “Login with credentials” on the myAlpha Mobile app to log in using your e-Banking credentials (Username and Password).
  2. Find your new virtual Market Pass Visa card on the overview page (under “Cards”).

If you have not yet installed the app on your mobile phone, you can download myAlpha Mobile directly from your mobile phone

I bank with Alpha Bank, but I don’t have e-Banking credentials. How do I get my virtual Market Pass Visa card?

When you apply, choose Alpha Bank to get and use your virtual Market Pass Visa card.

If your application is approved, you will receive a Viber/SMS notification once we receive your request through the programme.

When the process for issuing the virtual Market Pass Visa card is completed, we will send you a relevant SMS.

To use your new virtual Market Pass Visa card, we will send you e-Banking credentials (Username and Password) by email/SMS on the contact details you have provided to Alpha Bank.

Through e-Banking, you will be able to view all the products you hold with Alpha Bank. When you activate your e-Banking, you fully and unconditionally accept the e-Banking terms of transactions.

To get access to your virtual Market Pass Visa card:

  1. Download and install myAlpha Mobile on your mobile phone.
  2. Choose “Login with credentials” on the myAlpha Mobile app to log in using the e-Banking credentials you received by email/SMS. Do not choose “Sign up to e-Banking” or “New customer”.
  3. Find your new virtual Market Pass Visa card on the overview page (under “Cards”).

I do not bank with Alpha Bank and have chosen Alpha Bank to get my Market Pass. How will I get my card?

If your application is approved, you will receive a Viber/SMS notification once we receive your request through the programme.

To use your new virtual Market Pass Visa card, we will send you e-Banking credentials (Username and Password) by email/SMS on the contact details you have provided to Alpha Bank.

How can I add my virtual Market Pass Visa card to my Google Pay or Apply Pay digital wallet?

Through the myAlpha Mobile app.

  1. Choose “Login with credentials” on the app to log in using your e-Banking credentials (Username and Password).
  2. Find your new virtual Market Pass Visa card on the overview page (under “Cards”).
  3. Choose “Add to Google Pay” or “Add to Apple Wallet”, to add it to the digital wallet you prefer.

I have myAlpha Wallet installed on my mobile, but the Market Pass does not seem to work. What should I do?

myAlpha Wallet does not support the Market Pass. To shop at a POS with the Market Pass, you must add the Market Pass card to the Google Pay digital wallet through myAlpha Mobile.

My device does not support Google Pay. Can I still shop?

Yes, but only online, using your card details. To view the card details (card number, expiry date and CVV), log into myAlpha Mobile and choose Cards > Card Details.

I already have my Alpha Bank e-Banking credentials, but I have received new credentials for the Market Pass and cannot log into myAlpha Mobile. What should I do?

I bank with Alpha Bank, but don’t have e-Banking credentials. When I applied, I chose Alpha Bank to get my Market Pass. Why did I receive e-Banking credentials (Username and Password)?

To use your virtual Market Pass Visa card.

With your e-Banking credentials (Username and Password) you log into myAlpha Mobile, to view your card details, use your card online or add it to your digital Google Pay or Apply Pay wallet to shop in-store.

Using the Market Pass

Where can I use the Market Pass aid?

If you choose the virtual Market Pass Visa card

The aid amount is credited to your virtual Market Pass Visa card every month. You can use this amount to buy any type of product at retail food stores or farmers’ markets (e.g. grocery stores, supermarkets, butcher shops, pastry shops, dairy shops, bread shops).

If you choose a bank deposit

The aid amount is credited to your account every 3 months. You can use this amount without any restrictions.

 

How do I use the virtual Market Pass Visa card

  • At POS devices, by adding your card to an Apply Pay or Google Pay digital wallet through myAlpha Mobile.
    Attention: You cannot add the Market Pass to myAlpha Wallet.
  • Online, using your card details. To view the card details (card number, expiry date and CVV), log into myAlpha Mobile and choose Cards > Card Details.
 

Can I use my virtual Market Pass Visa card to shop online?

Yes, using your card details. To view the card details (card number, expiry date and CVV), log into myAlpha Mobile and choose Cards > Card Details.

Until when can I use the virtual Market Pass Visa card?

Until 31.12.2023. After this date, your card will be deactivated. Any balance remaining from the aid amount will be returned to the Greek State and you will no longer be able to claim it.
