Alpha Bank provides humanitarian assistance to people affected by floods, earthquakes or other emergencies, offering clothes and long-life food supplies. The Bank also makes special arrangements to support its Customers, namely Individuals living in the affected areas or Businesses located there.
Alpha Bank supports the work of Volunteer Firefighters Associations after the catastrophic fires of August 2021
Alpha Bank is once again turning its strong commitment to environmental protection into action, actively assisting local communities in fighting fires by donating 6 fire trucks, to strengthen the fleet of vehicles of the Associations of Volunteer Forest Protection & Rescue Forces of Prokopi and Karystos in Evia, the Volunteer Forest Protection Association of Loutraki – Perachora, the Messenia 4x4 Disaster Response Team, the Rodopolis Group (Attica) of the Volunteer Forest Firefighting & Rescue Forces and the Volunteers Team of Kapandriti-Polydendri in Attica. At the same time, Alpha Bank also supports financially the work of the Volunteer Forest Firefighters Associations of Attica and the Volunteer Rescue Team of Figaleia in Elis.
Insurance for these vehicles has been undertaken by Generali Hellas, in the context of its strategic partnership with Alpha Bank.
This initiative follows on from previous actions implemented by the Bank to support fire-affected areas, after the devastating fires that hit the country in the summer of 2021 and burned more than 1,300,000 acres, with the regions of Evia, Attica and the Peloponnese having suffered the most extensive disasters. In August 2021, Alpha Bank offered 7,500 items of packaged foods and basic necessities to the Hellenic Red Cross, supporting its important humanitarian work and the activities of its national network of volunteers. Moreover, the Bank provided its Retail and Business Customers, who have their residence and/or registered office of their business in the affected areas and have suffered damages, with the option of suspending for 6 months the payment of instalments on housing, business, and consumer loans, as well as on credit cards.
The donation was delivered to the 6 Associations by the Chair of the Alpha Bank Board of Directors Mr. Vasileios Rapanos, at a special event held in the courtyard of Zappeion Megaron, on May 4th 2022, in the presence of the Minister for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Mr. Christos Stylianides and the Major General of the Fire Brigade Mr. Ioannis Stamoulis.

The Bank supports Municipality of Elassona after the earthquake of March 3, 2021
As part of its Corporate Responsibility program, Alpha Bank contributes to the immediate relief of the people in the Municipality of Elassona who have been affected by the earthquake of Wednesday, March 3, 2021 through the supply of bakery products, personal hygiene products as well as personal protective equipment.
The Bank supports Samos from the catastrophic earthquake of October 30, 2020
Alpha Bank actively supports our fellow citizens who are suffering from the disasters caused by the recent earthquake in Samos, on October 30, 2020. Specifically, the Bank, in the context of its Corporate Responsibility, granted one of its properties for the collection and storage of tents, food and clothing, for the victims of the recent earthquake that struck the island.
Alpha Bank actively supports those affected by storm Ianos
Alpha Bank stands by our fellow citizens who were plagued by the disasters caused by storm Ianos, proceeding to special arrangements and facilities for their loan obligations as well as for the restoration of the damage they suffered.
In particular, the Bank, in the context of its Corporate Responsibility, activated immediately the option of suspending for a period up to 12 months, the payment of instalments on housing, business and consumer loans, and credit cards for its Retail (individuals) and Business Customers who have their residence or have the registered office of their business in the affected areas and have suffered damages. Furthermore, within the framework of the initiative to support the people affected that was announced by the Hellenic Banking Association, Alpha Bank provides the possibility of granting a mortgage loan at a preferential interest rate for the repair of damage to homes. Finally, the Bank stands by the affected residents of the Municipality of Karditsa by offering, after communication with the competent authorities, 1,800 pieces of food and necessities through the Social Grocery of Karditsa.
Support of the flood-striken in Evia, on August 2020
After the natural disaster of Sunday, August 9, 2020, in Evia, and as part of its Corporate Responsibility program, Alpha Bank activated immediately the option of suspending for a period up to 12 months, the payment of instalments on housing, business and consumer loans, and credit cards for its Retail (individuals) and Business Customers who have their residence or have the registered office of their business in the affected areas and have suffered damages from the flood. Additionally, for Retail (individuals) and Business Customers with debts in arrears, the suspension, until the end of this year, of the auctions to be held in the areas affected is foreseen, after submission of an application by the Customer concerned, along with a Certificate from a Public Authority. Finally, the Bank also offers the option of applying for housing loans at a privileged interest rate, for covering the cost of repairs of damages in residences.
Delivery of humanitarian aid to Lebanon on August, 2020
Following the announcement-invitation of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, addressed to businesses and individuals, regarding their participation in the delivery of humanitarian help to Lebanon, as our country’s response to Lebanon’s efforts to deal with the consequences of the destructive explosion of August, 4, 2020, in the port of Beirut, the Bank donated seven (7) six-channel electro-cardiographers (ECGs).
Alpha Bank contributed to the immediate response to the problems of those affected by the natural disasters in areas of Northern Greece in July 2019.
To facilitate the repayment of mortgages, consumer and business loans and cards, the Bank provided the possibility of interest-free deferral of payments for up to twelve months to its Customers, Individuals and Businesses who have their residence or have the registered office of their business in the affected areas and have suffered damages. Customers had the opportunity to use this facility, upon request at their Partner Stores.
Alpha Bank stands by the people affected by the fires of July 23, 2018, in Eastern and Western Attica
Alpha Bank, contributing to the immediate relief of the people affected by the fires in Eastern and Western Attica, offered 800 pieces of clothing to the residents of the Municipality of Marathon as well as 600 medical and pharmaceutical supply items to the Municipality of Rafina.
In order to facilitate the payment of mortgage, consumer and business loans as well as cards, the Bank also offered the possibility of a twelve-month suspension of payments, interest-free, to its Customers, both Individuals and Businesses, who either live or are active in the affected areas and have sustained damage. Interested Customers can submit an application to the Branch they work with, by 31.12.2018.
Moreover, in order to contribute to the restoration of card-based transactions in the affected areas, the Bank replaced the damaged POS terminals of its Business Customers who had sustained damage from the floods and covered technical support expenses or the rental of a new POS terminal for a six-month period.
In addition, AXA Insurance has taken steps to directly support insured Bank Customers who are facing difficulties, securing short-term accommodation for those in need, as well as making an immediate advance payment to cover their first expenses.
Finally, the Doctors of the World Alpha Bank account accepts donations, in order to provide medical care and psychological support to the people affected by the fires.
The Bank supported the people affected by the devastating flood of November 15, 2017
In addition, Alpha Bank, contributing to the immediate relief of those affected by the devastating flood of November 15, 2017 in West Attica, offered:
- 2,100 hot meals to the Social Grocery of the Municipality of Mandra
- 4,000 long-life packaged food items and 600 pieces of clothing to the affected areas.
Alpha Bank responds in natural disasters
The Bank further offered 18,600 long-life packaged food items to Kythira (fire - August 2017), Oropos (fire - August 2017), Agrinio (floods - December 2017), Plomari (earthquake - June 2017) and Kapandriti (fire - August 2017). It should be noted that in Kapandriti, 470 hot meals were also served to the Hellenic Fire Service. Additionally, 17 items of medical equipment, together with pharmaceutical and medical supplies, were donated to the General Hospital of Mytilene and to the Municipal Health Clinic of the Municipality of Kos. Finally, in Symi, Alpha Bank rebuilt a playground, repairing the damage caused by the heavy rainfall of November 2017.
Support of Chios Gum Mastic Growers
Alpha Bank assists the Chios Gum Mastic Growers Association in its efforts for replanting mastic trees in the areas ravaged by the destructive fire of July 25, 2016, in the Mastiha Villages of Southern Chios. Offering support to the gum mastic growers, Alpha Bank donated 2,000 lentisk saplings, which were distributed by the Association, as the organisation is exclusively responsible for managing mastic production in the island.
The saplings are cultivated in the mastic tree nursery, which the Chios Gum Mastic Growers Association operates for the purposes of meeting the production needs of gum mastic growers with certified mastic trees suitable for cultivation, maintaining the area-specific biodiversity of these trees and supporting the overall recovery of mastic production.
Alpha Bank contributes substantially to the work of the Chios Mastic Gum Growers Association to protect mastic, as a unique Greek product fully identified with the history, the culture and the economy of Chios island.
