On Sunday, May 20, 2018, the “Alpha Bank Group Volunteer Day* was held with success in Greece, Cyprus, Romania and Albania. The “Alpha Bank Group Volunteer Day” was established in 2009, as an annual initiative aimed at further raising awareness of social and environmental issues among the Group’s Employees in Greece and abroad, and at driving their contribution to related activities and events.

In Greece, the “Alpha Bank Group Volunteer Day” was held in Athens and Thessaloniki, with the participation of 40 volunteers from the Bank’s Personnel and consisted of, educational activities that were organised for children sheltered in Foundations. Under the guidance of established professional chefs, the children became little chefs and were introduced to the art of cooking.

More specifically, in Athens, 31 children aged 8 to 12 from SOS Children’s Village in Vari, together with children raised in the Homes of the Voluntary Non-Profit Organisation “The Smile of the Child”, were invited to the Goulandris Natural History Museum to discover cooking secrets and methods under the instructions of Chef Dimitris Skarmoutsos.. In Thessaloniki, 35 children from SOS Children's Village in Plagiari, Greek Children’s Village - Filyro, “Melissa” Orphanage for Girls and “The Smile of the Child”, cooked together with Chef Alexandros Papandreou in a specially prepared area, graciously provided by the American Farm School.

In Cyprus, 70 volunteers from the Personnel of Alpha Bank Cyprus collected food supplies and other staple goods in order to support destitute families. The items collected were delivered to these families by the charity organisations “Europa Donna” and “Vagoni Agapis” (“Wagon of Love”).

In Romania, approximately 200 volunteers from the Personnel of Alpha Bank Romania participated in various actions. Once again this year, they participated in the activities for the regeneration and embellishment of the Botanical Garden of Bucharest, which has been operating for more than 150 years. In addition, the Volunteers cooked a hot meal for 50 children of destitute families and offered home appliances to support the work of the programme “I want to be independent” for children with autism. Volunteer activities were also undertaken in other Romanian cities: in Timisoara, a group of Volunteers participated in educational activities organised for 20 children from the organisation “Save the Children”; in Constanța, educational visits to the city’s Aquarium and National Observatory were organised for children sheltered in Foundations; and in Cluj, a group of Volunteers accompanied children with health problems to a theatre show and offered gifts to the young spectators.

In Albania, 100 volunteers from the Personnel of Alpha Bank Albania, together with members of their families, participated in a big fundraiser event held at the central square of Tirana, in order to assist the non-profit organisation “You are a sunflower”, which supports children with health problems. On the same day, hundreds of Alpha Bank Albania Employees took part in activities aimed at raising public awareness of the Organisation’s charity work.

The active participation of Personnel is key to the success of the “Alpha Bank Group Volunteer Day”, as it reflects the Group’s corporate responsibility and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
