2022-2023 Meetings “The History of the Political Changeover”
15.11.2022 - 16.05.2023

The Alpha Bank Historical Archives are hosting a second series of lectures just before the 50th anniversary of the Political Changeover.

2nd series of lectures

For the 2nd year running, the Alpha Bank Historical Archives are hosting the successful series of meetings on the History of the Political Changeover (Metapolitefsi).

The 1st series of meetings was completed in May 2022. The 12 lectures were delivered in a creative open dialogue environment, fostering audience participation. Our goal is to publish an original collective volume based on these 2 series of lectures, before 2024, which marks 50 years since the Metapolitefsi.

At the beginning of the 1st series, Kostas Kostis, head of the Historical Archives of Alpha Bank and Professor of Economic and Social History at the Department of Economics, University of Athens, noted that the 50 years since the Metapolitefsi “are an opportunity to assess Greece’s achievements, but also its failures in the recent past”.

12 lectures on the Political Changeover in Greece

12 distinguished speakers will present a total of 12 lectures. The 2022-2023 Meetings will also deal with the history of Greece following the political changeover of 1974. However, different aspects will be covered:

  • Military expenditures.
  • Gender equality.
  • Press and magazines.
  • Culinary culture.
  • Higher education.
  • Church.
  • Politics and violence.

The moderators of the series are:

  • Kostas Kostis, head of the Historical Archives of Alpha Bank, and Professor of Economic and Social History at the Department of Economics, University of Athens.
  • Sotiris Rizas, Director of Research at the Research Centre for the Study of Modern Greek History, Academy of Athens.
