What is the IRIS Online Payments service?

It is the Service that enables the immediate execution of interbank fund transfers within Greece, supported by DIAS Interbanking Systems. Alpha Bank has made this option available via the Alpha e-Banking services, as follows:

  • Immediate fund transfers via Alpha Web Banking and Alphaphone Banking
By selecting Transfers > New Transfer > Within Greece, Alpha Web Banking subscribers can choose to execute immediately a fund transfer (for an amount up to EUR 12,500) to another bank in Greece, provided that this bank participates in the IRIS Online Payments system*.

This option is available between 08:00 and 16:15 on working days. The sender’s Alpha Bank account is debited immediately but the fund transfer message to the recipient bank is sent 15 minutes after the transaction is successfully submitted. During this time, the sender may cancel the transfer order. Once this time has elapsed, the transaction cannot be cancelled or reversed.

Alpha Bank is in no way responsible for any problems which may arise as a result of incorrect transaction entries. The beneficiary’s notification of the amount credited to his/her account is the responsibility of the beneficiary’s bank and takes place in accordance with its applicable policy and internal procedures.

For the immediate execution of fund transfers to other domestic banks, the sender pays an additional charge according to Alpha Bank’s current Price list.

  • Immediate fund Transfers via Alpha Mobile Banking
The IRIS Online Payments interbank service supports the immediate execution of payments between customers of the banks that participate in the IRIS Online Payments system*, without the requirement for the sender to know the beneficiary’s bank account number (IBAN), but using instead alternative identification information (e.g. the beneficiary’s mobile phone number for payments to individuals or Tax Registration Number [AFM] for payments to companies). The payment’s immediate execution is activated by the sender and is completed within just a few seconds, with a corresponding notification for the successful execution sent to both the sender and the beneficiary. In order to make use of IRIS Online Payments service, both the sender and the beneficiary must have completed the registration procedure via their bank of choice.

When you activate the Alpha Quick Transfer option offered by Alpha Mobile Banking, you are automatically registered for the IRIS Online Payments service of DIAS Interbank Systems.

*Apart from Alpha Bank, the following banks also participate in the IRIS Online Payments service: National Bank, Eurobank SA, Piraeus Bank, Attica Bank.
