Additional Password Services

  
What is the Additional Password?


 It is an additional level of security for your sensitive transactions via the Alpha Web Banking and Alpha Mobile Banking services. By entering an additional password, obtained using a one-time password generation means available only to you (an application on your mobile phone, an SMS with the password received on your mobile phone or a special device), your transfers become even more secure! 

Why should I activate the Additional Password Services?

By activating the Additional Password Services, you have access to additional options for transactions, such as:
  • fund transfers to Alpha Bank accounts of third parties (individuals or companies).
  • remittances to other domestic or foreign banks.
  • standing orders for fixed-amount fund transfers at regular intervals to Alpha Bank accounts of third parties.
  • payments to cards of third parties, issued by Bank or other domestic banks.
  • management of your Alpha Web Banking subscription (profile). You can:
                    - Add and remove Alpha Bank accounts and modify their usage rights.
                    - Add and remove Alpha Bank cards and modify their usage rights.
                    - Add investment accounts (e.g. Mutual Funds, Term Deposit accounts).
                    - Modify the upper limit for transfers to accounts of third parties not registered in your profile. 
  • change your subscriptions’ personal info.
  • application for an Alpha online Term Deposit, application management and modification or early liquidation of an Alpha online Term Deposit account.

  • Additional Password generators

    The use of the Services requires the use of one-time Passwords, which:
  • Are generated by the Alpha Safe Access application for iOS, Android and Windows Phone smartphones.
  • Are sent by SMS to the subscriber’s mobile phone (which the subscriber has provided for the service when registering for Alpha e-Banking).
  • Are generated by the Additional Password Device (for Individuals who have already received it).

     A new, even easier procedure for activating the Services! 

    The procedure for activating the Additional Password services is now easier for new subscribers!

    New subscribers – activation right from the start!

  1. Visit any Alpha Bank Branch to subscribe to the Alpha e-Banking services.
  2. During the registration, request the activation of the Additional Password Services, choosing between the Alpha Safe Access applicatio n and the option to receive Additional Passwords via SMS on your mobile phone.
  3. The Additional Password Services are activated automatically for your subscription and are available for you to use as soon as you sign on for the first time!

    Existing subscribers – activation in 3 simple steps!

    Are you a subscriber but have not yet activated the Additional Password Services? Subscription to and activation of the Additional Password Services are easily performed via the Alpha e-Banking services (Alpha Web Banking, Alphaphone Banking), in 3 simple steps
  1. Request for activation of the Additional Password Services 
      When filling in the initial application form (Services > Additional Password) you can choose the additional password generator which you will later use to activate the service:
              -
      for the Alpha Safe Access application, you should have installed the free application on your mobile phone, in order to enter its unique number (Credential ID).
              -to receive Additional Passwords via SMS, choose the mobile phone number you have provided in your subscription. 


      Additionally, you have to fill in your telephone numbers and contact hours for your identity verification by phone as well as the details of the account to be debited with the amount of €8* for the activation of the Services.
  2. Subscriber's identity verification by the Bank for security reasons 
      Soon after you submit your application, Alpha Bank's Customer Support will call you in order to verify your identity. In the interest of your own security,  will you be able to activate the Additional Password Services only after your identity has been successfully verified.
  3. Activation of services using the selected Additional Password generator 
    Once you have your mobile phone available (whether you have chosen to use the Alpha Safe Access application or receive the Additional Passwords via SMS) and after your identity has been successfully verified, you can proceed to activate the Additional Password Services (Services > Additional Password).  The selected account will be debited upon the successful activation of the Services.

    *Subscription to the Additional Password Services incurs a one-off charge of Euro 8.00. The Additional Password generator (either the additional password via SMS or the Alpha Safe Access application) is provided free of charge.  

     Operation without the Additional Password

    Logging in to the Alpha e-Banking services does not require you to enter an Additional Password. You can always sign on to Alpha Web Banking using only your “User ID” and “Password” codes. In this case, you will only be able to carry out transactions of an information , and not fund transfers or payments (for the activation of the other transactions, you will be asked to fill-in an “Additional Password”). 

    The security of your transactions depends on you as well

    The Alpha Safe Access application, the mobile phone on which you receive Additional Passwords via SMS or your Additional Password device cannot be used by other persons for the purposes of transactions, unless these persons know both your “User ID” and “Password”. 
    In order to avoid this, you are advised, in the interest of your own security:  
  • To memorize your Alpha Web Banking security codes and not store them together with your mobile phone or your device; and 
  • To install antivirus software (Firewall, Antivirus, Antispyware) on your computer.

Useful Security Tips

  • Alpha Bank will never ask you for your access codes in any way (e.g. via phone or e-mail). These codes are strictly personal and you must never reveal them to anyone.
  • Select access codes that are not easily guessed and are not being used on other systems and services.
  • Keep the access codes confidential in a way that it is not feasible to be disclosed / stolen.
  • Log in to Alpha Web Banking only via the official website of Alpha Bank (www.alpha.gr) and never via other links appearing on other websites, search engines or e-mail messages.
  • Verify the validity of the Alpha Web Banking page and the security certificate by clicking on the lock icon in the address bar of the browser.
  • Update your PC with the latest versions and security patches of the operating system (e.g. Windows) and the browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox).
  • Inspect regularly your PC for viruses and other malicious programs using the latest versions of antivirus and antimalware utilities.
  • Ignore and delete immediately «suspicious» e-mails that ask you to provide your personal data, include links or attachments.
